Acne Skin care: Paula’s Choice CLEAR Extra Strength REVIEW

On to the review!

After years and years of acne… those cystic bumps have left physical (and emotional) scars. Due to extreme sensitivity to.. everything… I prefer not to wear foundation on a daily basis.

But when I look at my cheeks… these scars tempt me to slather toxic pigmented chemicals all over my face.

Before picture:

1. Before

Will this product help me get rid of my hyper pigmentation?
One way to find out… Let’s play!

The Claims.

1. Product picture

I purchased this on Ulta.com, where a sample size is available! Otherwise, the full size retails for $65 US for 1 oz of product. Woof.
They claim that:
“85% of Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum users saw spots lighten in just 1 week.* Hydroquinone fades dark spots, age spots and freckles while Hexapeptide-2, an advanced skin-lightening peptide helps even skin tone. Glycolic acid exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, helping the active ingredient to penetrate quickly for faster results.”

One week is quite the deadline Murad. I think I’m going to give it 2 or 3 weeks… since I think a month is a normal timeline for non-stubborn acne scars to fade on my skin. The instructions say to massage evenly over clean face, neck, and chest

Application: This product is a gel with a slightly sticky finish. I messaged it into my skin as instructed… and WHEW it smells like straight up nail polish. But if it works, who cares!

…. am I supposed to use this one time a day? 2 times a day…? No idea… so I did some research on the active ingredient hydroquionine.

According to the internets you’re supposed to utilize it 2 times a day and stay away from the sun!

Will this help my battle with acne scars?? Or is it a $65 waste of money? …. Let’s Play!

Day 1-2

Here are the first two days… nothing really happened. Maybe some mild redness on day 2 of use… So I decided to wait and use the product twice a day patiently.

Day 9

4. Day 9

I don’t see too much of a difference… do you guys? The claims said one week.. and its been 9 days… and honestly I really don’t like having something so thick and sticky during the day. I even have a new pimple friend underneath my chin. And this stuff does NOT wear well under powder (which is my primary means of SPF)

Final check in: Day 14

Here’s a before picture again, with the after picture on your Right. I think the camera flash is making my whole skin brighter in the second picture… but overall things look the same.

Overall… I’m not a fan… BUT my mom who has dark spots (age spots? Sun spots?) Under her eyes told me they lightened after a couple of days… She did say after using it for a month that they did not get rid of them completely.

2 stars

Unfortunately I can’t give this product a great review… my quest to remove acne scars goes on! I gave this product a fair go, even after this review and made a good dent in the product. Maybe Hydroquionine isn’t the ingredient for me? I’ll stick to my Paula’s Choice. See my: How I CLEARED my acne: Paula’s Choice CLEAR Extra Strength REVIEW

My all time favorite product for lightening acne related pigmentation is a Vitamin C serum by majestic pure. Vitamin C does oxidize when exposed to air so make sure you use it up quickly! For my oily skin, I can also use this moisturizing product only at night. Oh! And also note that vitamin C doesn’t react the best to other skin care ingredients like my favorite, salicylic acid so use them separately in your AM and PM routines.

Be happy and stay healthy! Until next time!
